Again and again in recent years, the man from Esslingen had beaten his partner during arguments. Mostly, the 54-year-old woman only suffered minor injuries. But on April 25, 2014, the assaults escalated: The 53-year-old man repeatedly struck his partner in their shared apartment with punches to the head. The injuries were too severe: The woman died three days later in a clinic.
