Stuttgart, April 18, 2024 – The Stuttgart Regional Court today sentenced five men to prison terms for severely assaulting an attacker following a hand grenade attack on a cemetery in Altbach. The sentences range from three years to just under five years.
In June 2023, the perpetrators pursued and attacked the assailant after he had thrown a hand grenade during a funeral ceremony. The grenade thrower, who injured 15 people in this incident, has already been sentenced to twelve years in prison.
The court’s decisions are part of the legal proceedings addressing a prolonged series of violent incidents between rival gangs in the greater Stuttgart area. The ongoing investigations and verdicts to date appear to have contributed to a decrease in acts of violence.
Further trials in this connection have already been scheduled and underscore the judiciary’s commitment to strengthening public safety and curbing violence in the region.
Reports have been published by, among others, the Frankfurter Allgemeine, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and SWR.
